Hijra Bank was established on January 16, 2022 in the wake of the long-awaited government’s approval of full-fledged interest-free banking in Ethiopia. A large part of the Muslim community in Ethiopia was financially excluded for decades due to the absence of Sharia-compliant banks in the country.
